Why We Love Panel Blinds!

Why We Love Panel Blinds!

The Elegance and Practicality of Panel Blinds

When it comes to window treatments, the choices are endless. From traditional curtains to sleek blinds, each option offers a unique blend of functionality and aesthetics. When it comes to modern interior design, panel blinds have risen to prominence as a versatile and stylish solution.

Are Panel Blinds Any Good? Panel blinds have gained a reputation for their exceptional utility and contemporary charm. These innovative window coverings are more than just visually appealing; they offer a range of practical advantages that make them a worthwhile investment for any living space.

What is a Panel Blind? A panel blind, also known as a sliding panel or panel track blind, is a type of window treatment designed to cover large windows, sliding doors, and even room dividers. Unlike traditional blinds that consist of individual slats, panel blinds are composed of wide fabric panels that smoothly glide on a track system. This unique design not only adds a touch of modern elegance to any room but also allows for effortless control of light and privacy.

Benefits of Panel Blinds:

  • Versatility: Panel blinds are incredibly versatile, making them suitable for various spaces, including living rooms, bedrooms, offices, and patio doors. They are equally functional as room dividers, creating a sense of separation within open-concept spaces.
  • Light Control: With individual panels that can be adjusted independently, panel blinds provide precise control over the amount of light entering a room. This allows you to create the desired ambience, whether it’s soft and diffused or bright and vibrant.
  • Privacy: One of the standout features of panel blinds is their ability to offer superior privacy. The wide panels effectively block the view from outside, ensuring that your personal space remains private and secluded.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: Panel blinds boast a modern and sleek appearance that complements contemporary interior design. They come in a wide array of fabrics, colours, and patterns, enabling you to find the perfect match for your décor.
  • Easy Maintenance: Cleaning panel blinds is a breeze. Most designs use fabrics that are easy to wipe clean or can be removed and washed, ensuring that your window treatments stay fresh and appealing.

Best Blinds to Stop People Looking In: If you’re seeking window blinds that provide a high level of privacy and prevent prying eyes from peering into your space, panel blinds are an excellent choice. Their wide panels and customisable configurations allow you to effectively block views and maintain your comfort.

Window blinds in these kinds of establishments are absolutely paramount for a number of reasons including privacy, safety and emotiona and physical well-being.  Here are some reasons why we think you should consider window blinds when looking after those at risk or the elderly:

  1. Privacy and Dignity: Blinds allow residents to control their level of privacy, enabling them to adjust the window coverings according to their preferences. This promotes a sense of dignity and autonomy, which is particularly important in care home settings.

  2. Light Control: Blinds offer residents the ability to control the amount of natural light entering their rooms. Proper light control can create a comfortable and soothing environment, while also helping to regulate sleep patterns and enhance mood.

  4. Glare Reduction: Blinds can effectively reduce glare on screens or surfaces, making it more comfortable for residents to engage in activities such as reading, watching television, or using electronic devices.

  5. Noise Reduction: Certain types of blinds have noise-absorbing properties that can help minimise external noise, creating a more peaceful and quiet living environment.

  6. Safety: Modern cordless or motorised blinds eliminate the risk of cords becoming entangled, reducing the potential hazards for residents, especially those with limited mobility or cognitive impairments.

  7. Aesthetics: Blinds contribute to the overall aesthetic of care home interiors. They come in a wide range of materials, styles, and colours, allowing care homes to choose options that complement their design themes and create a pleasant ambience.

Plain or Patterns?

Plain or Patterns?

Usually, the choice between patterned or plain window blinds comes down to personal preference and the existing decor of the room you are putting the window blind into. Whilst most people’s go-to is a plain, neutral design, it can be a good idea to consider all choices and see them for yourself before making your mind up, which is why we always recommend potential customers to come down to our showroom to see many of our blind styles in person to really get a feel for the textures, colours and aesthetics of each fabric. Our locations are below:

Blaydon: Chainbridge Industrial Estate, 4-5 Tundry Way, Blaydon-on-Tyne NE21 5SJ

Forest Hall: 20 Station Rd N, Forest Hall, Newcastle upon Tyne NE12 9AD

Patterned Window Blinds:

  1. Visual Interest: Patterned blinds can add visual interest and depth to a room. They can be a focal point or complement other patterns in the decor.
  2. Style: Patterned blinds can convey a specific style or theme, such as modern, traditional, or eclectic.
  3. Concealing Imperfections: Patterns can help mask minor stains or wear over time.
  4. Privacy: Depending on the pattern, they may offer more privacy compared to plain blinds, as patterns can obscure the view from outside.

Plain Window Blinds:

  1. Simplicity: Plain blinds offer a clean and understated look that can easily blend with various interior design styles.
  2. Versatility: They are versatile and can easily coordinate with a wide range of decor and color schemes.
  3. Timelessness: Plain blinds often have a timeless appeal that doesn’t go out of fashion quickly.
  4. Minimalistic Aesthetics: If you prefer a minimalistic or uncluttered look, plain blinds might be a better choice.

Ultimately, the decision between patterned and plain window blinds comes down to your personal style, the existing decor of the room, and the ambience you want to create. You could also consider combining both by having patterned blinds in some rooms and plain blinds in others, depending on the mood and function of each space.

10 Things To Know Before Buying Blinds

10 Things To Know Before Buying Blinds

Are you thinking of buying window blinds? Our home consultations are a great way to learn about the various styles and fabrics on offer and our expert team can go through all the technical terms and specifications with you to ensure you are getting not only the best deal possible, but the blinds chosen for your space are the right kind not only aesthetically, but practically too. However, if you are not in the window coverings business, knowing what information will be helpful before committing to your purchase can be confusing.  Here are our top 10 tips for things to know before buying blinds:

Window Measurements:

As part of our free home consultations, we offer free window measurements so you do not need to worry about getting the ladder out and measuring your windows yourself. It is however useful to note that the larger your windows are, the more it is going to cost to custom build and fit a blind to. Understanding this from the beginning will help you prepare for what kind of quote you will be given before our consultant leaves your home.

Type of Blinds:

There are many types of blinds to choose from, all of which offer various benefits. You may find it useful to jot down some of the main benefits you want from your window blinds so our team can use this information to come up with a window solution that will meet your requirements. For example, do you need motorised/voice control blinds? Do you prefer hanging vertical blinds or snug-fit roller blinds? Having a preference is ok, and can help us to determine which blinds are best for you.

Light Control:

Determine the level of light control you desire. Some blinds offer complete blackout, while others provide filtered light. Consider the direction your windows face and the amount of sunlight they receive. Don’t just consider the current climate, try and think back to what the light levels were like in previous seasons as well.

Privacy Needs:

Consider the levels of privacy you require in each room. Some rooms, such as bedrooms, might require a total blackout blind that prevents the ability to see in at all. Other rooms however might need a degree of privacy, such as living rooms and kitchens where the levels can be adjusted to suit, such as open during the day and closed during the evening. Some blinds even offer a view to the outside while limiting people’s ability to see inside.

Material and Durability:

The material of the blind plays a big part in its durability. For example, in a kitchen, you might want to consider flame retardant and wipe clean fabrics depending on their proximity to the cooking area. For everyday blinds, it is a good idea to consider materials that suit your style and stand up to the conditions in the room. You may decide to go for a plain, minimal design to suit a range of decors and colours if you like to redecorate a lot, or you might go for bold, colourful and patterned material to bring the “feature wall” to the window. Whatever your preference, we have a blind to suit you!

Maintenance and Cleaning:

Different blinds require different cleaning methods. Consider how much time and effort you’re willing to invest in maintaining them.

Safety:

If you have young children or pets you may want to consider motorised blinds. This is one of our safest offerings as they have no operational cords. However, ALL of our blinds comply with UK safety laws and all operation cords will be fixed to the wall upon application by our team, dramatically lowering the chances of accidents.

Warranty:

Most blinds come with a warranty of some sort, but the length and terms of the warranty can vary. All of our blinds are covered by a 12-month warranty.

Samples:

Before booking a consultation, you might want to see a few styles for yourself, feel the materials and see the quality of the fabrics. We offer a free home delivery of up to 5 samples of your choice directly from our website. Simply search for the blind style you like and click the request sample button next to it. Checkout the sample basket and they will be delivered free of charge to your home.

Expert Service:

Once you have considered all alternatives, it is time to book your home consultation! This is a free, no-obligation service offered to anyone in the North East of England. We will attend your property at a pre-arranged appointment time and go through all of your options, listen to any concerns and offer our expert advice on styles and fixtures. We then measure your windows and provide you with a quotation that lasts for 30 days. We do not employ “salesmen” and nobody works on commission, so you will not be made to feel pressured to buy. Once we have received your order your blind will be produced in our factory and fitted within 2 weeks of ordering.

By considering these factors, you’ll be better prepared to make an informed decision and find window blinds that enhance the aesthetics and functionality of your home. Happy blinds shopping!

Additionally, these blinds are machine washable, ensuring they remain fresh and hygienic for extended periods. These features make our blinds ideal for healthcare settings where cleanliness and infection control are paramount. We take pride in offering competitive prices while delivering a product that meets the highest standards of performance and safety.

  • Hospitals
  • Care Homes
  • Doctors Surgeries
  • Dentists
  • Residential Homes
  • Elderly Care
  • Sure Start Centres
  • Waiting Rooms

Our range of blinds have been carefully chosen with durability and low maintenance in mind. We understand that cost is can be a major concern so we have endeavored to offer our products at extremely competitive prices without sacrificing the highest quality. A large selection of our fabrics are available with ‘Ultra-Fresh’ anti-microbial coating, which kills the MRSA superbug (amongst others) upon contact and they are also machine washable, keeping them fresh for longer.

Having blinds in a Healthcare setting provides you with a world of advantages you may never have thought of, such as:

  1. Privacy: Blinds help to maintain patient privacy by blocking the view from outside the room. This is crucial for ensuring patients have a comfortable and confidential environment during their stay.
  2. Light control: They allow staff and patients to adjust the amount of natural light entering the room, which can be essential for patient comfort, recovery, and overall well-being.
  3. Infection control: Hospital blinds are often made of materials that can be easily cleaned and disinfected, helping to reduce the risk of infection transmission in medical settings.
  4. Temperature control: They can also help regulate the room’s temperature by blocking or allowing sunlight, making the space more comfortable for patients.

Specialised coatings and finishes we offer to the Healthcare sector:

  1. Ultra-Fresh Technology Fabrics: This antimicrobial treatment offers proven protection from microbial attack by controlling the growth of unwanted microbes. When treated with Ultra-Fresh the fabric provides protection against the growth of odour-causing bacteria, fungi, mildew and moulds. It also prevents stains that can be caused by bacteria and fungi resulting in fabric that is fresher and cleaner for longer. Ultra-Fresh is recommended for use in the healthcare sector, care homes, catering facilities, schools and nurseries. With a wide range of light filtering and blackout FR fabrics available for the commercial market, it makes sense to choose window blinds treated with Ultra-fresh where antimicrobial protection is of particular importance.
  2. Coronasafe Coatings:  It is essential to make areas where people gather as safe as possible and protect against the spread of coronavirus. The unique CoronaSafe™ formula offers proven protection eliminating 99% of coronavirus from the fabric’s surface within an hour. An hour! A tremendous result when, according to the internationally recognised medical journal, The Lancet, cloth can retain the virus for up to 2 days. Where extra protection is needed, in hospitality, offices, care homes, healthcare sectors, schools, nurseries and in the home, use CoronaSafe™ window blinds in Carnival or Carnival Blackout fabric.
  3. Anti-Ligature Devices: The use of additional safety devices may reduce the risk of strangulation or injury but cannot be considered foolproof. Persons in charge of children and vulnerable people are ultimately responsible for following the safety instructions provided by us the manufacturer. It is a requirement by law that new blinds must be ‘safe by design’ or be supplied with appropriate child safety devices installed. The regulations apply in the following circumstances; Where there is a loop present in a blind it will be fitted during the manufacture with a safety device that will break under pressure. Safety devices will also be supplied to secure the cord to a wall. The standard also imposes a maximum cord and chain length and minimum fixing heights. This directly affects the minimum distance a looped control cord can be from the floor, and must (in most cases) be fixed to a wall/frame if installed by us. A1 Blinds install all blinds to comply with these regulations. We also offer a free site survey to inspect existing blinds in public buildings including schools, hospitals and offices. We will provide a detailed report on all blinds that either meet or do not meet the compliance (EN13120) and will advise on the best way to comply with the new law.
  4. Cubical Curtains & Trackings: Our cubicle tracking programme includes innovative products such as mobile cubicle track systems for flexible use of space in hospital departments such as Accident and Emergency and overhead intravenous track systems. To complement our track systems we offer disposable cubicle curtains, including the Easy-Fit product which reduces replacement times dramatically. Our disposable cubicle curtains are treated with Endurocide antibacterial formulation and they are 100% recyclable.
Come Rain (or Shine) Window Coverings

Come Rain (or Shine) Window Coverings

On average, the North East of England receives around 700 to 900 millimetres (27 to 35 inches) of rainfall per year. This makes it one of the wetter regions in the United Kingdom, but it is not as rainy as some areas in the western parts of the country, such as Wales or the Lake District.

Indoor blinds can provide several benefits during rainy weather, especially for homes or buildings with windows. Here’s how indoor blinds can help in the rain:

  1. Rainwater protection: Indoor blinds act as a barrier between the rain and the interior of your home. When properly closed, blinds prevent rainwater from splashing onto windows and seeping inside, helping to keep your living spaces dry and free from water damage.
  2. Moisture control: Rainy weather can sometimes increase the humidity levels inside your home. By closing the blinds, you can create a barrier that reduces the amount of moisture entering your living spaces, helping to maintain a more comfortable and balanced indoor environment.
  3. Protecting furniture and belongings: Closing indoor blinds during rainstorms can protect your furniture, electronics, and other valuable items from potential water damage. This is especially important for windows close to furniture or delicate decor that could be negatively affected by moisture.
  4. Reducing window condensation: During rain and cooler temperatures, windows can become colder than the indoor air, leading to condensation. Closing blinds can help to minimize this effect by creating an extra layer of insulation and reducing the temperature difference between the window surface and the indoor air.
  5. Privacy: Rainy weather often means reduced visibility outside due to water on windows and low light conditions. Closing the blinds can provide an added layer of privacy, making it more difficult for people outside to see into your home.
  6. UV protection: Some indoor blinds are designed to block harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun. Even on rainy days, UV rays can penetrate clouds and reach your windows. Closing the blinds can offer additional protection against these rays, preventing potential damage to your skin and indoor furnishings.

Our free home consultations are an opportunity for you to talk to one of our expert team members about the space you have on offer, your requirements and also any concerns you might have. This is also an excellent opportunity to discuss decor, colour schemes and pattern styles. Our team will come armed with samples and style guides to ensure you get a full insight into what is available to you.

Our team do not work on commission so you will be put under no pressure to buy.  We will simply give you a quotation on the day (valid for 30 days) and leave you time to think it over and discuss it with your family.

Flame Retardant Blinds For Commercial Properties

Flame Retardant Blinds For Commercial Properties

Fire retardant blinds are specifically engineered to prevent the rapid spread of fire in the event of an incident. In settings where safety is of utmost importance, such as commercial establishments, the presence of flame retardant blinds becomes crucial and in most cases in the UK, required by law.  This is because of their effectiveness in reducing the potential for injuries or loss of life. Here are some reasons why fire retardant blinds are a MUST:

  1. Safety: The primary purpose of fire retardant blinds is to enhance fire safety. In the event of a fire incident, these specialised window treatments are designed to resist the spread of fire, helping to contain it within a limited area.
  2. Injury and Loss Prevention: Fire retardant blinds can significantly reduce the risk of injuries and loss of life. By impeding the fire’s progression, they provide valuable time for building occupants to evacuate safely and for emergency responders to contain the fire effectively.
  3. Property Protection: In commercial settings, fire incidents can lead to extensive property damage. Fire retardant blinds can help protect the interior and contents of buildings, minimizing the financial and emotional impact of a fire-related disaster.
  4. Insurance Requirements: Insurance policies for commercial properties may stipulate the implementation of fire safety measures, including fire retardant blinds. Compliance with such requirements is crucial for maintaining insurance coverage and ensuring claims are valid in case of a fire-related incident.
  5. Peace of Mind: Fire retardant blinds provide peace of mind for building owners, occupants, and visitors, knowing that there are measures in place to mitigate the risk and impact of a potential fire.

Overall, fire retardant blinds play a critical role in creating a safer environment in commercial settings, offering protection against fire hazards and contributing to the overall fire safety strategy of a building

Do A1 Blinds fire retardant blinds comply with UK laws?

Our diverse selection of flame retardant blinds includes Roller Blinds, Vertical Blinds and Venetian blinds – each available in a wide range of colours and fabrics that caters to the specific requirements of various commercial environments.

Who can benefit the most from fire retardant blinds?

Motorised Blinds: Everything To Consider!

Motorised Blinds: Everything To Consider!

Are motorised blinds better than normal blinds? Do I REALLY need to remotely control my blinds? I’d love motorised blinds but can I really afford them?

Do these questions sound familiar? Well, this guide has been designed to help you answer some of the burning questions about motorised blinds!

How do they work?

Motorised blinds can be opened and closed using an electrical unit that turns the bar that the blind is attached to. These motors are small but powerful pieces of equipment and use minimal power to operate, increasing their efficiency! Depending on your personal preferences or what is available, this motor can be powered by rechargeable batteries or connected directly to your main supply.

What are my control options?

Motorised blinds come with FOUR control options – giving you a variety of options to best suit your technological needs. The options on offer are:

  1. Wall Switches – Just like a light switch, these can be used to control a single or a group of blinds at a touch of a button!
  2. Remote Control – If getting up and controlling a switch is not convenient, we have remote control options. Just like a TV remote but with fewer buttons!
  3. Smart Hub Control – For those who are tech-savvy, you may prefer our smart hub option that allows you to control your blinds via devices such as Google Home or Alexa. Imagine controlling your blinds with your voice!
  4. Smartphone Controls – The newest and growing in popularity, You can choose to operate via an app on your smartphone… No matter where in the world you are!

What are the benefits?

  1. Simple and Easy to operate – it is that simple…the main benefit is that these blinds are simple and easy to use for everyone!
  2. Cordless – Say goodbye to unsightly and dangerous cords and hooks. Enjoy fuss-free blinds that look neat all the time
  3. Child Safe – Expanding on point number 2, no cords means motorised blinds are extremely child safe in comparison!
  4. Stylish – With plenty of styles, colours and patterns to choose from, you can find a motorised blind to suit any room and decor
  5. Added Security – Thanks to modern technology you can operate your blinds from wherever you are in the world! Close and open your blinds when you are on holiday or away from your residence, adding extra home security and peace of mind that your belongings are not on show.
  6. Thermal Efficiency – By having your blinds programmed to open and close at certain times of the day, you can benefit from better home efficiency. This means lower energy bills at the time we need it most!

How Private Is Your Home This Summer?

How Private Is Your Home This Summer?

The summer months are the most anticipated of the year! The sun is out, the kids are off school and that feeling of stepping off a plane and onto a hot sunny beach with an ice-cold drink is closer than ever! Summer allows us to spend more time outside the same four walls. Whilst this is great – how much are you protecting what is inside?

The Metropolitan Police state that most residential burglaries are opportunistic, and burglars will tend to target houses with valuables. Now think back to your home – when you are out, is your 60-inch TV on show? Can you see the gaming consoles on the unit? What about your mobile in the kitchen? Just having a blind that restricts the view can deter burglars from attempting to break into your home.

When choosing blinds for privacy, you may want to consider those made with thicker materials or have a blackout feature. There are several types of blinds that are designed to offer enhanced privacy. Here are a few options:

Roller Blinds:

Roller blinds are a popular choice for privacy. They consist of a single piece of fabric that roll up or down to cover the window. When fully closed, roller blinds provide a high level of privacy.

Roman Shades:

Roman shades are fabric window coverings that stack up evenly when raised and fold neatly when lowered. They can be made with various opacities, including blackout linings, to provide privacy.

Allusion® Blinds:

Providing both subtle light diffusion and total privacy. Open the blind fully for an uninterrupted view during the daytime, or slide the vanes across the window with the louvres rotated for a bit more privacy.

Vertical Blinds:

Vertical blinds are commonly used for large windows or sliding glass doors. They feature vertical slats that can be tilted to control light and privacy. When closed, they provide privacy from outside observers.
